[PetiteCloud] is the rc.d the right place to load kernel mods and make bridges?

In the early days of PC I assumed that the only thing that would happen at
boot is any instances that needed to be started would be. Overtime a few
other functions found themselves into this start up procedure:
* load kernel modules (FreeBSD only... not needed on linux)
* set up the bridgeNic
If there are no instances started at boot is there any reason to do this
instead of wait til there is an instance
